About Rounding-up

The OrderPin POS System's rounding-up feature lets you pick different rounding denominations and rules depending on your country's currency. Once you have selected the smallest denomination of your country's currency and chose the rounding rule that determines how this denomination is rounded, you will need to apply it to your payment type. When you take a payment, OrderPin POS System will round the amount owed to the nearest specified increment based on your chosen rounding rule. In theory, rounding rules apply to cash payments.

Setting Rounding-up rule

The OrderPin POS System provides 4 different rounding calculation logics. Merchants can choose the corresponding rounding method according to the policies and regulations of the country. The following introduces the algorithms of different logics one by one:

  1. Log in to the Back Office with your OrderPin POS System credentials.
  2. From the home page, select Settings > Payment & Fee > Fee Settings > Rounding.

Round down to 0.05

Let's take an order as an example:

Item Amount =  RM 23.00 * 1 = 23.00, TAX (6%) =23.00 * 6% = 1.38, so the total amount is 23.00 + 1.38 = 24.38

Here, the total bill ending in 1, 2, 3, or 4 in the second decimal place is rounded down to 0, while the total bill ending in 6, 7, 8, or 9 is rounded down to 5.

Then the total amount = 24.38 - 0.03 = 24.35

Round numbers to decimal places

Rounding numbers to decimal places shortens a decimal number to a given degree of accuracy. To do this we find the decimal place we wish to round to and look at the digit to the right of that number. If the number after the chosen accuracy is a  or more than , we round up. If it is less than 5, we round down. It is important to give the number of digits required after the decimal point, even if the last digit would be a zero.

How to round to decimal places

  1. Locate the decimal place for the degree of accuracy required.
  2. Look at the next digit to the right. Is it 5 or more?
  3. If it is 5 or more – round up by adding 1 to the digit of the decimal place required. If it is less than 5 – round down by keeping the required digit number the same. Remove any digits to the right of this number.

Let's take an order as an example:

Item Amount =  RM 21.99 * 1 = 21.99, TAX (6%) =21.99 * 6% = 1.3194, so the total amount is 21.99 + 1.3194 = 23.3094

Round off-Two decimal places

The total amount = 23.31

Round off-One decimal places

The total amount = 23.30

Round off-The nearest whole nubmer

The total amount is = 23.00
