A tip is a sum of money customarily given by a customer to certain service sector workers such as hospitality for the service they have performed, in addition to the basic price of the service. In some countries, tips are the main source of income for waiters and waitresses in restaurants.

Understanding Tips in OrderPin POS System
What Are Tips in OrderPin?
Tips are additional payments given by customers as a reward for good service. In OrderPin POS, tips can be either:
-
A percentage of the order total, or
-
A specific dollar amount.
Tips are displayed clearly during checkout, ensuring transparency for both customers and staff.
⚠️ Important:
Tips are directly tied to staff performance and shift tracking. Therefore, the Tips Function must be enabled along with the Shift Function. For more information, please refer to the Shift Function section.
How Tips Work in OrderPin POS
-
Merchants can configure preset tip percentages or fixed amounts.
(In North America, typical options are 15%, 18%, and 20%.) -
Tips can be collected:
-
Before payment (together with the bill)
-
After payment (as a separate transaction)
-
Both methods are supported on OrderPin POS tablet and mobile platforms.
Tip Calculation in OrderPin POS
Tips can be calculated in two ways:
1. By Percentage
If a tip is a percentage of the total, it's calculated based on:
Product Price + Service Fee (if any) + Tax
For example, if:
-
Product price: $20.00
-
Service fee: 10%
-
Tax: 6%
Then:
-
Tip 15% = (20 + 2 + 1.20) × 15% = $3.48
-
Tip 20% = (20 + 2 + 1.20) × 20% = $4.64
2. By Fixed Amount
If a fixed dollar amount is used, the tip is collected as entered (e.g., $3, $5).
