OrderPin POS System supports discounts on customer orders or products. Discounts will reduce the price of a single product or the entire order on OrderPin POS System. The discount can be in the form of a reduction in a specific amount or a certain percentage.
OrderPin POS System supports two types of discount settings. The first is to discount the entire order based on the order dimension; the second is to discount a specific product based on the product dimension.
In this section, we will introduce the first type of discount: discounting the entire order based on the order dimension.

Understanding discount settings
How discounts work in OrderPin POS System
- In OrderPin POS System, we have preset three default discount methods for the entire order: fixed amount, fixed ratio, and rounding up. (Rounding up is also a way to give a discount for the entire order, but the discount amount is tiny)
- For the order discount based on a fixed amount and fixed ratio, we have preset three discount reasons (Promotion, VIP, serving too long). You can also choose the fourth reason (Other reasons) according to the actual situation and make notes.
- If you think the preset whole-order discount operation in OrderPin POS System cannot meet your daily operational needs, or you need a quick whole-order discount button, you can create a whole-order discount option in the Back Office.
How discounts are calculated in OrderPin POS System
The OrderPin POS System decides whether to discount the entire order based on the calculation rules for service fees, tips, etc. that you set in the backend. The whole order discount in OrderPin POS System is a discount on the ordered dishes, but whether the tax is discounted depends on the tax settings. In addition, the whole order discount will also affect the service fee and tip.
For example, under the premise that the store's taxes are not included in the price of the dishes, the taxes are not included in the discount, and the service fee is not calculated in the tax base, a 20% discount named "Opening Promo!" on the entire order is set in OrderPin POS System.
Suppose the order amount is $20.00, the tax rate is 6.00%, the service charge fee is 8.00%, the tip rate is 20.00%, and the entire order discount is 20%, then:
- The discount on the entire order does not affect the tax calculation base, and the tax is still calculated based on the original order amount, then
the tax fee = 20.00 * 6.00% = $1.20
- The discount on the entire order affects the calculation base of the service fee, and the service fee is calculated based on the discounted amount, then
the entire order discount = 20.00 * 20% = $4.00
the discounted order amount = 20.00 - 4.00 = $16.00
the service fee = 16.00 * 8.00% = $1.28
- The discount on the entire order affects the tip calculation base, and the tip fee is calculated based on the discounted amount, then
the total amount after discounts = 16.00 + 1.20 + 1.28 = $18.48
the tip = 18.48 * 20.00% = $3.696 rounded to $3.70
Important:
- The case here is for illustrative purposes only. Different settings for dish prices, taxes, and service fees will lead to different calculation results, which must be determined based on actual conditions.
