OrderPin POS System supports discounts on customer orders or products. Discounts will reduce the price of a single product or the entire order on OrderPin POS System. The discount can be in the form of a reduction in a specific amount or a certain percentage.
OrderPin POS System supports two types of discount settings. The first is to discount the entire order based on the order dimension; the second is to discount a specific product based on the product dimension.
In this section, we will introduce the second type of discount: discounting a specific product based on the product dimension, called a Special discount in OrderPin POS System.
In this article:
Understanding special discount settings
How special discounts work in OrderPin POS System
Giving special discounts to designated products can be used for product promotion, customer attraction, package specials, etc. Create a special discount to discount your selected products:
- In OrderPin POS System, we have preset two default discount methods for the selected products: fixed amount and fixed ratio.
- For special discounts, you can specify a specific product or a group of products. OrderPin POS System does not have a fixed binding, and the clerk needs to manually select the products and give them special discounts at checkout.
- Special discounts are based on the product and are equivalent to selling the product at a discount.
How special discounts are calculated in OrderPin POS System
The OrderPin POS System will determine whether discounts affect the calculation of corresponding fees based on the service fee, tip, and other calculation rules you set in the backend. Special discounts in OrderPin POS System are discounts on specific dishes, but whether taxes are discounted depends on the tax settings. In addition, special discounts will also affect service fees and tips.
For example, under the premise that the store's taxes are not included in the price of the dishes, the taxes are not included in the discount, and the service fee is not calculated in the tax base, a $9.99 discount named "Mocha Hot Sale" on the selected product “Ice Mocha” is set in OrderPin POS System.
Suppose the product amount(1 piece of Iced Mocha) is $19.00, the tax rate is 6.00%, the service charge fee is 8.00%, the tip rate is 20.00%, and the special discount is $9.99 for Mocha-related products, then:
- The special discount on the product does not affect the tax calculation base, and the tax is still calculated based on the original product amount, then
the tax fee = 19.00 * 6.00% = $1.14
- The special discount on the product affects the calculation base of the service fee, and the service fee is calculated based on the discounted price, then
the product discount = $9.99
the discounted order amount = 19.00 - 9.99 = $9.01
the service fee = 9.01 * 8.00% = $0.7208 rounded to $0.72
- The special discount on the product affects the tip calculation base, and the tip fee is calculated based on the discounted price, then
the total amount after discounts = 9.01 + 1.14 + 0.72 = $10.87
the tip = 10.81 * 20.00% = $2.174 rounded to $2.17
Important:
- The case here is for illustrative purposes only. Different settings for dish prices, taxes, and service fees will lead to different calculation results, which must be determined based on actual conditions.
