Packing fee setting

The take-out boxes, bags, or other packaging materials used by restaurants for takeout are usually one of the restaurant's operating costs. The owner can set it in the menu options and let the customers decide whether to bear this part of the cost when ordering.

Understanding packing fees

How packing fees work in OrderPin POS System

Create a packaging fee to help restaurants offset the cost of consumables while also helping the environment. In OrderPin POS System, packaging fees can be charged based on order type and are usually a fixed amount. When you check out, both you and your customer will see the fee in the transaction.

  • In OrderPin POS System, the packing fee is a fixed amount. For example, a packing fee of $2 is charged for each order. Different owners can set different packing fees based on their costs.
  • In OrderPin POS System, the packing fee is charged on a per-order basis. For example, if Allen orders 2 cups of milk tea for a takeaway order, he will be charged a packing fee once; if Bob orders 3 cakes for a self-pickup order, he will also be charged a packing fee once.

How packing fee is calculated in OrderPin POS System

Usually, restaurants will set up multiple types of fees at the same time, such as taxes, packaging fees, service fees, etc. Here we need to know how to calculate the multi-fee structure under OrderPin POS System.

  • Packing fees are not included in the tax base. For example, the total amount of the order excluding tax is $35.00, the tax rate is 6.00%, and the packing fee is $2.00. Then:

the order amount = $35.00

the tax fee= 35.00 * 6.00% = $2.10

the packing fee = $2.00

the total amount of the order is 35.00 + 2.10 + 2.00 = $39.10

  • Packing fees are not included in the service fee base. For example, the total amount of the order excluding tax is $35.00, the tax rate is 6.00%, the service fee is 10.00%, and the packing fee is $2.00. Then:

the order amount = $35.00

the tax fee= 35.00 * 6.00% = $2.10

the service fee = 35.00 * 10.00% = $3.50

the packing fee = $2.00

the total amount of the order is 35.00 + 2.10 + 3.50 + 2.00 = $42.60

  • Packing fees are included in the tips base. Here we refer to the situation where tips are charged based on the proportion of the order amount. For example, the total amount of the order excluding tax is $35.00, the tax rate is 6.00%, the service fee is 10.00%, the packing fee is $2.00, and the tips are 15.00%. Then:

the order amount = $35.00

the tax fee= 35.00 * 6.00% = $2.10

the service fee = 35.00 * 10.00% = $3.50

the packing fee = $2.00

the total amount of the order is 35.00 + 2.10 + 3.50 + 2.00 = $42.60

the tips = 42.60 * 15.00% = $6.39

Important notes about packing fees

Next, the OrderPin POS System will continue to improve the setting of packing fees to meet the needs of more scenarios, such as:

  • Support charging packaging fees based on the quantity of dishes in the order.
  • Support dine-in customers to pack up unfinished dishes, that is, the packing fee is a configurable item in the dine-in order.
  • In addition to setting it here, the packing fee can also be set in the extra options of the menu to facilitate the above 1, 2, or more scenarios. For details, please refer to the corresponding chapter Extra Options.
